Intended use
The frequency of fungal infections and in particular those associated with yeasts have increased considerably over the last ten years. The identification of the species, whether as a single agent or of different types, present in a clinical specimen has become indispensable for determining the correct therapeutic option.
The ELIchrom FUNGI kit allows the identification of the main human pathogenic yeasts (Candida, Saccharomyces, Rhodotorula, Cryptococcus, Trichosporon, Geotrichum, Kloeckera, Pichia). It also allows the differentiation of Candida albicans from Candida dubliniensis.
Principle
In the ELIchrom FUNGI kit, the identification of yeasts is based upon the revelation of enzymatic activities. It is a specific test (18 identification characteristics) notably via the use of chromogenic substrates and other major, conventional reactions (oxidation by phenoloxidase, hydrolysis of urea and assimilation of sugars).
The identification of the yeast is performed using colonies which should be young (24 to 48 hours old) and perfectly isolated on an agar medium in a Petri dish.
All the necessary reagents are contained in the 20-well tray (1 test/tray) and no additional reagent is required to perform the test. Each ELIchrom FUNGI tray includes a positive control well (C+) which reveals the assimilation of glucose; and a negative control (C-) to help for the reading of two chromogenic reaction wells.
Easy-to-read and easy-to-interpret results
The result is visualized by a simple spontaneous colorimetric reaction, without instrument or expert interpretation. Identification table & coding system (code book) are available for the interpretation of the results. It is a practical and easy-to-use laboratory test, giving accurate results from isolated colonies usually in 24 hours.
